Babou the ocelot
Drawings, India InksI created this work for the Dali fait le Mur exhibition, which was held at the ‘Espace Dali’ in Montmartre from the 11 September 2014 to the 15 March 2015. We were asked to imagine a conversation with the master of surrealism Dali, and from this conversation to produce one or two works.
The animal here represents Babou, Dali’s ocelot. During his stay in New York, Dali would walk around with this animal, currently facing extinction. Dali would tell people that he was a cat repainted using Op Art techniques. That’s why I imagined that during our conversation I ask Dali if I could borrow his favourite animal just for an afternoon, allowing me to portray him for an exposition.
