Ulysse’s ShipDrawings, India Inks
This drawing is a detail of another work called Mythological Scene. Ulysses’ boat was probably not a 17th century, three-mast sailing boat. It was more likely to be a trireme, a boat found in Ancient Greece.
On my imagined boat there is an Egyptian symbol because I believe Ulysses, king of Ithaca, to be of major importance in literature (Homer’s Odyssey is the first epic poem) and mythology. The anachronism is a way of showing how universal and beyond time the Mythical Scene is. Henceforth the multiple references such as ancient Egypt and ancient Greece or the Renaissance.
